The territorial police in Kisoro District have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Ruhangariyo Jacklyn, a resident of Mulindi Village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub County, for allegedly murdering her two-year-old son, Irasubiza Salvation.
According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred on the morning of Friday, April 11, 2025, at around 6:00 am. At the time, the children’s grandmother, Ntawigemera Anah, had gone to attend a church service, leaving the two children – Amumpire Wisdom Ian and her younger sister Irasubiza Salvation – asleep in the house with their grandfather, Kubwimana Herbert.
At around 7:00 am, Herbert reportedly left the children alone in the house as he went to his garden to spray Irish potatoes. Upon his return at around 9:00 am, he found only one child, Amumpire Wisdom, at home. When asked about her sibling’s whereabouts, the young girl claimed that their mother, Ruhangariyo Jacklyn, had picked up Irasubiza Salvation and thrown her into a nearby water tank belonging to Mukamulisi Jesca, the suspect’s grandmother.
Kubwimana raised an alarm which quickly attracted neighbors. Upon inspection of the water tank, the lifeless body of the young child was discovered and retrieved. The matter was immediately reported to the child’s father, Maniriho Fred, who then alerted officers at the Kanaba Police Post.
Police visited and thoroughly documented the crime scene. Witness statements were recorded and Ruhangariyo Jacklyn was arrested to assist in ongoing investigations. Authorities are working to establish the motive behind the shocking act.
The body of the deceased child was taken to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and emphasized that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The case has sent shockwaves throughout the community, with residents demanding justice for the innocent child.
