The Minister of Finance (General Duties), Hon. Henry Musasizi, has called on civil servants to take personal responsibility for their financial well-being instead of relying solely on government pensions.
Speaking on Friday during the burial of Margaret Gangwenyima—mother to Mucunguzi Isaac Rushoga, the LCIII Chairman of Northern Division in Kabale Municipality—at St. Phillips Estates Bugongi Church of Uganda Parish, Minister Musasizi emphasized the importance of financial discipline and long-term planning.
He noted that while many public servants consider government pensions insufficient, the real issue lies in poor money management during their years of active service. He urged them to begin saving, investing early, and planning for retirement to avoid financial difficulties later in life.
Minister Musasizi also stressed that young workers should build financial resilience by taking advantage of their productive years to secure their future. He encouraged Ugandans to adopt a proactive approach to personal finance to ensure a stable and dignified retirement.
During the same ceremony, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, Bishop of the Kigezi Diocese, expressed concern over the moral decline among youth, attributing it to weakened parental guidance. He urged parents to prioritize instilling values and spending quality time with their children over providing material possessions.
