Alumni of Makobore High School Kinyasano in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, have issued a stern warning to politicians against defacing the school’s signpost with campaign posters. They have set a fine of five million shillings for anyone found guilty of sticking posters on the school’s road sign.
This announcement was made on Saturday, April 12th, 2025, by John Kwesiga, the Makobore High School well-wishers mobilizer, during the unveiling and inauguration of a new 3D metallic pylon signpost near the gate of North Kigezi Health Center IV, Rugarama, located in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. The ceremony was presided over by the North Kigezi Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe.
Kwesiga, an old student of the school and currently the assistant town clerk of Kebisoni Town Council, condemned the behavior of politicians who often cover important road signs with their posters during election seasons. He emphasized the importance of preserving the new sign and declared a UGX 5 million fine for anyone who violates this directive.
Steven Turibyo Kanyonyi, another old student, expressed pride in what he termed the “first-ever quality signpost in the district,” describing it as a symbol of Makobore High School’s renewed glory and reputation.
In his remarks, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe commended the alumni for their commitment and fulfillment of their role in supporting their former school. He urged other old students to follow suit and encouraged school heads to prioritize erecting signposts that reflect the identity of North Kigezi for ease of communication and guidance.
Counsel Isaac Atukunda, also an old student and the official who presided over the event, highlighted the crucial role of alumni in uplifting their former schools. He expressed his dedication to supporting initiatives that restore the legacy and pride of Makobore High School.
