Rukungiri police have arrested Akamusiima Shakulu, a 29-year-old teacher from Sunrise Primary School, for allegedly impregnating a 15-year-old student from Nyakagyeme Secondary School.
Rukungiri District Police Commander, SSP Brian Ampeire, confirmed the arrest following investigations into a pregnancy discovered in October 2025, with allegations of abuse starting in January 2025.
The individual, a resident of Muhororo in Rukungiri District, remains in custody while investigations continue under file number SD REF: 45/01/04/2026.
Official statements from the District Police Commander highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting the breach of trust by someone in a position of guardianship.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of child protection and stated that the legal process will determine the appropriate consequences through the courts of law. Police have also issued a general call for individuals to act with restraint and responsibility to prevent such incidents from impacting the lives of young people in the community.
