President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to the late Hon. Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba, praising his lifelong dedication and outstanding service to Uganda.
The remarks were delivered during a state funeral held today in Butega 1, Kagamba Ward, Kagarama Town Council, Kajara County in Ntungamo District, where mourners gathered to bid farewell to the former legislator and diplomat. Hon. Ruhemba served as Member of Parliament for Kajara from 1996 to 2001 and held several senior positions in government, including roles in the Ministry of Education and Sports, as well as serving as Uganda’s Ambassador to South Africa.
Representing the President, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Thomas Tayebwa lauded the late ambassador as a key contributor to the country’s development, noting his role in shaping Uganda’s Constitution and his continued advisory support to government even after retirement. He also highlighted the late Ruhemba’s commitment to unity, education, and community development in Kajara and beyond.
A 9-gun salute was accorded to the late ambassador in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation, a ceremonial honor reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the country.
Family members, led by his brother Kweyamba Ruhemba, the Chief Administrative Officer of Ibanda District, described him as a patriotic leader who championed integrity and fought against corruption. Former Ntungamo District LC5 Chairperson Hon. John Wycliffe Karazarwe also praised the late ambassador as a hardworking, focused, and principled leader, urging current politicians to emulate his legacy.
His children, led by Brenda Natukunda, remembered him as a loving and supportive father who valued education, guided his family, and lived a life grounded in honesty and discipline. They also highlighted his passion for agriculture and his dedication to their well-being.
Kajara County Member of Parliament Hon. Michael Timuzingu Kamugisha commended the late ambassador for his honest counsel and unwavering commitment to truth and public service.
Delivering the sermon from Proverbs 10:7, Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe offered words of comfort to the bereaved family and encouraged mourners to remain patient and uphold the values of righteousness, noting that a life well lived leaves a lasting legacy.
The funeral attracted numerous dignitaries, including political leaders, civil servants, and religious figures from various denominations, all gathered to honor a man remembered for his integrity, service, and dedication to the nation.
Hon. Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba is survived by four children and fifteen grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to his country.
