The Kanungu District Council has today convened a special sitting to pay tribute to the late Hon. Elias Kanyonza Jameson, the LC3 Chairperson of Rugyeyo Sub-county. The session, chaired by District Speaker Frank Byaruhanga, was held on April 2, 2026, at the sub-county headquarters.

The meeting drew a wide range of dignitaries, including district security heads, family members of the deceased, councillors, sub-county chairpersons, and the area Member of Parliament for Kinkizi East as well as the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi.

In accordance with Rule 27 of the Standard Rules of Procedure, Hon. Immaculate Birungi, the female councillor representing Kanungu Town Council, moved a motion for the council to formally receive the body of the late Kanyonza and pay special tribute to his life and service. The motion was unanimously seconded by all councillors.

Council members eulogized the late Kanyonza as a devoted and hardworking leader, a committed anti-corruption advocate, and a passionate champion for community development. They also described him as a loving family man and a reliable friend. As part of honoring his legacy, the council resolved to rename the Kabatwa–Kanungu road as Kanyonza Road.

The LCV Chairperson-elect for Kanungu District, Francis Byamukama Kapesha, described the late Kanyonza as a friendly and dedicated leader whose contributions to the district will be greatly missed. The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kanungu, Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju, praised him as a pillar in the community, an educator, and a trusted advisor on security matters.

Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi also paid tribute, describing Kanyonza as a dedicated public servant whose efforts in promoting unity, fighting sectarianism, and improving livelihoods in Rugyeyo Sub-county will have a lasting impact.

Hon. Elias Kanyonza Jameson passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Namirembe Hospital in Mukono District, where he had been receiving treatment for high blood pressure. He was 62 years old.

He has been laid to rest today at his ancestral home in Kabahesi Cell, Kashojwa Parish, Rugyeyo Sub-county in Kanungu District.
