The Diocese of Kinkiizi has held the 1st session of the Diocesan Synod under the theme, “Utilizing God-given resources for sustainability of the church ministry,” bringing together parish representatives, clergy, and other invited guests to discuss issues concerning the governance and future plans of the diocese.

The Synod started with a Holy Communion service that was presided over by Venerable Rev Ronald Natuhwera, the Archdeacon of Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry under North Kigezi, as the guest priest. In his sermon, Rev Natuhwera encouraged Christians to anchor themselves in Jesus Christ amidst all life challenges.

The Chief Guest and main speaker, Mr Samuel Bakutana, Provincial Fathers’ Union President of the Church of Uganda, challenged Christians to utilize the resources given to them as one way of promoting sustainability of church ministry. He commended spiritual vibrancy, economic strength, and social influence as pillars of church sustainability.

Representing the Kampala Fellowship, Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi acknowledged that, besides expanding the church ministry, the church should promote the overall well-being of its members. Moreover, he emphasized the need to fight ignorance by encouraging social transformation.

In his charge, the Bishop of Kinkiizi Diocese, Rt Rev Dan Zoreka, as he warms up for his retirement come 1st June, 2027, extended his heartfelt gratitude to Christians and all well-wishers for supporting him, which has helped to expand the ministry, and commended the Synod to start preparations to welcome the 3rd Bishop.

During the Synod, the Bishop appointed Counsel Jonathan Bwagi as the Diocesan Chancellor, Madam Keen Twesigye as the Deputy Chancellor, Eng Sam Arineitwe Kajojo as the Head of Laity, and Rev Kenneth Kanyankore as the Head of the House of Clergy. He also appointed new lay and clergy canons led by Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi.

The Synod also featured the election of different committee members and representatives of the diocese at different levels, plus awarding certificates and recognizing members.
