The Deputy Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipality, Mr. Justus Ampiire, today officially administered the oath of allegiance to newly elected leaders of Western Division during a ceremony held at the division headquarters.

The newly sworn-in leaders include Madam Sylvia Twinomugisha Katimbiira as Division Chairperson. Akatwihayo Charles Science was elected Speaker after defeating Madam Robinah Night, while Adam Bwisho won the seat of Deputy Speaker.

Other Western Division leaders and councillors were also sworn in and later handed tools of office to officially begin their duties.

In his speech, Mr. Justus urged the leaders to be exemplary and focus on the development of the division and their communities.

He said development can only be achieved when leaders work together in unity, respect their offices, and avoid corruption.

Speaking after taking the oath as Division Chairperson for the second term, Madam Sylvia Katimbiira called for hard work and unity among leaders. She urged the newly elected members to uphold the law while executing their duties.

She warned that decisions made outside legal boundaries could lead to legal consequences for both the division and individual leaders.

Katimbiira noted that leaders would be personally liable for actions taken in contravention of the law and encouraged them to always seek legal guidance whenever in doubt.

She also encouraged leaders to prioritize honesty and truthfulness in their operations to maintain credibility and improve service delivery to the people.

She concluded by appreciating residents who entrusted them with leadership and pledged to deliver the required services.

John Kwesiga, the Town Clerk for Western Division, cautioned leaders against soliciting or accepting bribes during their term of office.

He said Western Division has been performing well and encouraged the new leaders to learn from experienced leaders while carrying out their duties.

Kwesiga added that before the first council sitting in September, the council will conduct an induction in August to orient the new leaders on how to effectively perform their responsibilities.
