Police in Mitooma District are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man under unclear circumstances.

The incident occurred on April 11, 2025, at around 4:00 AM in Rwenkuri Village, Bitooma Parish, Katenga Sub-county, Mitooma District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Gaston Muchunguzi, a 33-year-old casual worker and resident of Bweyo Village, Bukongolo Parish, Mutara Sub-county, Mitooma District.

It is alleged that the deceased had supper with his mother as usual before leaving for an unknown location.

On the morning of April 11, 2025, locals searched for him, but his mother informed them that he had not returned home. Later, an abandoned body was discovered in a water culvert, and residents identified it as his.

Kellen Atuhaire, the 61-year-old chairperson of Rwenkuri Cell, reported that the body was found lying face down (in a prone position) with some body parts missing.

Tumusiime stated that the body was taken to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
