Rwegongo and Kataate cell residents join efforts through communal works (Burungi Bwansi) to reopen Rwegongo–Kataate road in order to easily access services at Kisiizi Hospital and other services, most especially trading and commerce

These cooperative residents of Rwegongo cell in Kisiizi Parish, Nyarushanje Subcounty, together with those of Kataate cell in Bikongonzo Parish, Nyakishenyi Subcounty, joined together today morning and held communal works with the intention of opening the Rwegongo–Kataate road, which they say can be the easiest alternative route to connect them with essential social services, most especially health centers and markets for their products.

Speaking with Boona Radio, Mr. Birungi Lazaaro, the interim Chairperson LC1 Rwegongo cell, together with Nyebirweki Crinerio, the Rwegongo cell LC1 Secretary, after the communal activity, said that the road connects both Nyarushanje and Nyakishenyi subcounties easily in exchange of social services, mostly trade and medical services at Kisiizi Hospital.

They added that they have been using very far routes while trying to access essential services, including transportation of their products to markets. Therefore, the Rwegongo–Kataate route will be the solution to overcome all those challenges and embrace economic development. However, they didn’t forget to call for support from the government to accompany them towards the success of the opening route.

The Kataate LC1 Chairperson in Nyakishenyi Subcounty, Mr. Gelevazio Turinawe, emphasized that they joined efforts with neighbours of Rwegongo cell in order to open the easiest route which connects them with Kisiizi Hospital. However, during the process, they met rocks which have hindered the activities. He therefore called for support from the government or merciful souls to equip them with powerful materials to use.

The Nyarushanje Subcounty LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Michael Musiime, witnessed the joint communal works and expressed the absence of the Nyakishenyi LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Wednesday Twinonujuni, who was also supposed to witness the works but missed because of some challenges. He therefore motivated both residents, acknowledging that the route will connect their areas with developmental service networks, basing on trade and other essential services. He added to appreciate the unity, cooperation, and hard work of the two cells despite being from different subcounties.

Meanwhile, he pledged support as the Subcounty head until the route is complete and emphasized that he will provide culverts for the difficult areas on the route which can be disrupted by running water.

The communal works to open up the Rwegongo–Kataate route are still going on. Both local leaders of the two subcounties pledged to support them — mostly Michael Musiime for Nyarushanje and Wednesday Twinonujuni for Nyakishenyi.
