Former Kabale Municipality legislator Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga has officially declared his political comeback after being nominated to contest in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for the Kabale Municipality parliamentary seat.
Baryayanga submitted his nomination papers at the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kyadondo, Kampala, marking his return to elective politics. Accompanied by a small group of supporters, he pledged to reclaim the seat he previously held for two consecutive terms from 2011 to 2021.
Speaking shortly after his nomination, Baryayanga called on Kabale residents to rally behind his candidacy, stating that his decision to join the NRM was driven by overwhelming calls from constituents who believe in his leadership. He promised to continue championing development, youth empowerment, and economic transformation in the municipality.
During his previous tenure as an independent MP, Baryayanga was widely recognized for his effective lobbying, grassroots mobilization, and efforts to empower women, men, and youth through various socio-economic programs.
As the NRM primaries draw closer, the race in Kabale Municipality is heating up. Baryayanga will face stiff competition from other aspirants including Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, the Deputy RDC for Wakiso District, businessman Byamungu Micheal, and economist Joseph Mutebile.
The seat is currently held by Dr. Nicholas Kamara, who recently joined the opposition People’s Freedom Front (PFF), setting the stage for a highly contested race ahead of the 2026 general elections.
