As the NRM primary election campaigns intensify across the country, popular Rukungiri politician Innocent Beyongyera, widely known as Baller, has announced his withdrawal from the Rukungiri Municipality Mayorship race.
Speaking to Boona FM earlier today, Innocent stated that he voluntarily stepped out of the race after receiving a new opportunity to serve in government. He cited the Ugandan Constitution, which requires any public servant to resign from their position before engaging in political campaigns. “Having got an opportunity to serve in government, I could not stand for two positions,” he explained.
Innocent called on his supporters to remain calm, assuring them that he will continue his philanthropic and developmental work across Rukungiri District. He pledged to keep supporting churches, mosques, schools, and the needy, while continuing his role as President of Rukungiri United Football Club.
He urged residents of Rukungiri Municipality to remain vigilant and vote for leaders focused on service delivery and community development. “Let us maintain unity and togetherness as we support all ongoing development initiatives,” Innocent said.
Dismissing allegations that he was influenced or bought out by rivals, Innocent warned his supporters against entertaining such rumors. “Do not listen to anyone trying to mislead you with such claims,” he emphasized.
With Innocent out of the race, the Mayoral competition now narrows down to three candidates: incumbent Charles Makuru, Isaac Tumuhimbise, and Boaz Matita.
