Residents of Rushararazi village in Kikongi parish Bwambara sub-county in Rujumbura county Rukungiri district are on the verge of contracting waterborne diseases due to drinking and using filthy water.

According to Barnard Byamugisha, the lc1 chairperson Rushararazi cell, locals have been promised clean and safe water several times by district leaders and political leaders all in vain.

He says they trek long distances in search of clean and safe water since some of the water nearby is from unprotected sources which might put their lives in danger.

Chris Kagayano, the Bwambara sub-county chairperson when contacted, explained that as sub-county leaders they are aware of the problem of water scarcity and requested people not to worry since they are patterning with district leaders to solve the problem.

He added that the current government of Uganda is constructing an 800M water project in Kikongi Parish Bwambara Sub County which will benefit all parishes.

Some of the locals who preferred anonymity told our reporter that the former Rujumbura county legislator Hon Fred Turyamuhweza had constructed a water spring that was later mismanaged and went out of use.
