Police in Rukungiri is investigating a hit-and-run accident that happened yesterday in Omukiragiro on Rukungiri- Ntungamo road.
According to the police statement released today morning, the accident involved a motor vehicle number UAZ 405C white in color which knocked and killed a pedestrian identified as Mubangizi Musa 47 years a resident of Katunga cell Buyanja sub-county Rukungiri district.
It alleged that the vehicle that was coming from Ntungamo heading to Rukungiri and on reaching Omukiragiro trading center at a high speed, hit the hump and knocked a pedestrian who was crossing the road.
After the incident, the vehicle sped off from the scene while the victim died on the way to Nyakibale Hospital where he was being rushed for treatment.
The body of the deceased was taken to his home pending postmortem.
Police led by Corporal Oketayot and PC Owiny visited the scene and documented it and efforts to recover the vehicle are underway as inquiries into the matter continue.
