The mayor of Mbarara City South Division Jomo Mugabe has raised concern over street vendors who have refused to occupy the available spaces in Central and Kijjungu markets.
Kijungu Market in Mbarara City South Division has nearly gone empty after more than 200 vendors decided to abandon their stalls and hit the streets claiming that the place no longer attracts enough customers.
Mugabe says as leaders they have tried to eliminate all roadside vendors in Mbarara City South Division but unfortunately, they have adamantly refused to occupy empty stales both in Kijungu and Mbarara Central Markets.
He says in the Multi-billion Central Market, most stalls on the third and fourth floors are still empty and none of the vendors are ready to occupy the free space.
He further added that as leaders they are still worried about rampant cases of theft in Mbarara Central market.
He adds though the central market has CCTV cameras, they still lack someone to command them urging the Vendors to be security conscious.
