Police in Kanungu district are investigating circumstances under which a 24yrs old woman died after allegedly taking contaminated food.
The OC Rutenga police station Okoch Fred identifies the deceased as Ruth 24 years, a resident of Biizi cell, southern ward, Rutenga town council in Kanungu district who is reported to have died in a suspected poisoning scandal with her one child who is undergoing treatment in Katate hospital but in a critical condition.
Okoch adds that the deceased died at Rutenga health center 3 in Kanungu where she had been rushed for treatment. The body of the deceased was taken to Katate health center 4 for postmortem.
Ruth is suspected to have been poisoned with her one child by Joyce 35yrs a resident of Biizi cell who has since been arrested and taken to Kanungu police station for further investigations.
Richard Orishaba the mayor of Rutenga town council while talking to our journalist said that on Sunday 20th August 2023, the deceased and suspect were seen together sharing drinks and chips with friends and when the deceased reached home, she started vomiting until Monday morning.
This prompted her neighbors to take her to Rutenga health center 4 where she died on Monday around 9:oo in the morning.
Richard said that the police were notified after the relatives of the deceased went to the suspect’s home and started destroying everything including the house, and banana plantations among others.
The scene of the crime was visited immediately by police which rescued the suspect and calmed down the situation.
The police are still on the ground following up on the matter.
A suspected murder by poisoning case has been registered at Kanungu police central station as inquiries are at hand.
