Educationists in Kabale District have asked teachers across the country to embrace the 2019 Uganda National Teacher Policy that requires every teacher to be a Degree holder to be able to fight computer illiteracy.

In new reforms, the Cabinet approved the 2019 Teacher Policy that seeks to ensure that all teachers are degree holders by 2030.

Speaking during the formal inauguration of the Broad Examination Primary Leaving Special Exam marking process held at Victorious Preparatory School in Kitumba Sub-county of Kabale District, the executive director of Broad Educational Consults, Julius Nahabwe said that the policy intends to help teachers to update the knowledge and boost their performance in terms of teaching.

Nahabwe said that the policy will also see some teachers advance in using technology to enhance their computer skills and also fight illiteracy among them.

The Kabale District Education Officer, Moses Tumwijukye Bwengye said that the policy is already being implemented and intends to impart the same knowledge amongst all the teachers in the teaching profession.

According to Tumwijukye, the teachers training colleges no longer admit grade three teachers whereas the National Teachers Colleges also no longer admit grade five secondary school teachers.

The Uganda National Teacher Policy (NTP) was approved and launched in October 2019.

The policy aims to provide a framework to professionalize and standardize the teaching profession and enhance the development and management of teachers.
