Nyakibale Deanery in the Kabale Diocese is preparing to welcome the Right Reverend Calist Rubaramira, the diocesan bishop, on 9th November 2024, for this year’s Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) campaign in Rukungiri District.
In an interview with our reporter at Christ the King Parish in Rukungiri Municipality, Rev. Fr. Dr. Julius Turyatoranwa, dean of Nyakibale Deanery, confirmed that preparations are in full swing. He noted that funds have already been successfully collected from Catholic communities (Obutaagi) across the district, and the deanery is now eagerly looking forward to hosting the Bishop for the event that will mark the campaign’s close across all parishes in Rukungiri.
The BAAF, launched in 2007, has brought significant developments to the region. Fr. Julius highlighted that the initiative has contributed to the construction of Centenary Bank branches in Kisoro, Kabale, and Rukungiri; the establishment of Radio Maria at Rushoroza; the acquisition of shares in Centenary Bank; the founding of St. Ignatius University; and the renovation of Rushoroza Cathedral. These projects, he explained, align with the fund’s mission to uplift communities through initiatives in education, health, commerce, and faith.
The 2024 BAAF campaign aims to raise funds for constructing a commercial building in Kabale Municipality, furthering the diocese’s commitment to community development.
The event will feature Mr. Ngabirano Earnest Katara, an aspirant for the Rubabo County MP seat, as the guest of honor, adding a special note to the day’s proceedings.
