Six inmates, including one visually impaired candidate, have commenced their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Kabale Municipality.
Gloria Asiimwe, the Kabale Municipal Inspector of Schools, confirmed that six inmates from Ndorwa Prison and one visually impaired candidate from Hornby High School Junior are among 1,832 candidates sitting for the exams, which started this morning across 28 examination centers in 45 primary schools in Kabale Municipality.
The six inmates are taking their exams at the Kikungiri Primary School center in Southern Division, while the visually impaired candidate is sitting the exams at the Hornby High School Junior Center.
Asiimwe, who oversaw the distribution of exams from Kabale Central Police Station, began the process at 8:30 AM under tight security.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, cautioned schools against engaging in examination malpractice during the PLE period. Speaking to journalists this morning at the distribution center at Kabale Central Police Station, Maate emphasized that security personnel are on alert to monitor the process closely and handle any cases of malpractice. He warned that any schools caught attempting to cheat would face serious consequences.
Nationwide, a total of 798,742 pupils are set to sit for PLE exams, representing a 6.6% increase from the 749,374 candidates registered in 2023.
