Police in Sheema District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an eight-year-old pupil in a hit-and-run accident.
The accident occurred on November 5, 2024, at around 6:20 p.m. near Bugongi Nursing School in Bugongi town, along the Kabwohe-Kitagata road.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Nasasira Poline, an eight-year-old pupil at Rwendahi Primary School in Bugongi Town Council.
Tumusiime also identified the motorcyclist involved in the accident as Robert Amanya from Bugongi town. Amanya, who was riding an unidentified motorcycle, was admitted to Kampala International University (KIU) Hospital in Ishaka.
According to reports, the motorcyclist was traveling from the Kabwohe direction towards Bugongi town on the Kitagata side when he allegedly struck the pedestrian, who was walking in the same direction.
Following the accident, both victims were assisted by a good Samaritan who transported them to Bugongi Health Center III. Unfortunately, the pupil was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the motorcyclist was transferred to Kampala International Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
