The territorial police in Kisoro district are investigating the alleged murder of a 53-year-old man, Evarist Nzabarinda, reportedly at the hands of his younger brother, Maniriho Zaire, 35.
The two, both residents of Gakoro Cell, Gasasa Ward in Bunagana Town Council, had been living together for some time amid a long-standing land dispute.
According to police reports, the incident is believed to have occurred on April 3, 2025, at an unknown time. However, later that day, at around midday, the suspect voluntarily turned himself in at Bunagana Police Station, where he was immediately arrested and charged.
A team led by the Officer-in-Charge of Bunagana Police Station visited the scene, documented evidence, and recorded witness statements. A postmortem examination was also conducted.
Authorities urge residents to seek mediation from local leaders and other relevant offices in case of disputes rather than resorting to violence.
Police say inquiries into the matter are ongoing, and upon completion, the suspect will be presented before the courts of law to face appropriate charges.
