Thousands of Christians from Christ the King Catholic Church in Rukungiri joined believers across the world today to observe the Way of the Cross, a powerful commemoration of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The faithful moved through the streets of Rukungiri town, carrying a large wooden cross to symbolize their solidarity with the pain Jesus endured during His crucifixion.

During the Good Friday service at Christ the King Church, Rev. Fr. Henry Barekye, the assistant parish priest, called on Christians to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation, reminding them that Jesus died for all humanity’s sins to bring peace.

Fr. Henry emphasized the importance of promoting peace not only during the Easter season but also in everyday life, particularly in homes and among neighbors, where domestic violence and misunderstandings are common.

He highlighted that the Public Way of the Cross is an annual tradition marked on Good Friday, symbolizing Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and ultimate victory over death. This solemn event takes place during the Holy Week leading to Easter Sunday, the day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Fr. Henry also encouraged the faithful to remain in the light of Jesus even after Easter by showing love and compassion to one another.

He urged Christians to take this Good Friday as an opportunity to renew their spiritual relationship with God, shun evil, and avoid the temptations of greed. He concluded by reminding the faithful to value their lives beyond material desires and to live in accordance with the teachings of Christ.
