The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) of Rukungiri, Ms. Kellen Kagisha, has announced the office’s readiness to arrest and prosecute anyone committing offenses against children during the holiday season.
Ms. Kagisha made the statement today, Saturday, 30th November 2024, while officiating at a Baptism, First Holy Communion, and graduation ceremony at Our Lady of Good Counsel Nyakibale. The event was presided over by Rev. Father Conrad Atuhaire, the Nyakibale Catholic Parish Priest, and held in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
She urged parents to remain vigilant in ensuring their children’s safety, emphasizing that the future of children is primarily secured by their guardians. However, she expressed concern over the high levels of domestic violence that continue to pose a threat to children’s welfare and reaffirmed the office’s commitment to advocating for children’s rights.
Meanwhile, the Rukungiri Municipality Principal Education Officer (MEO), Alfred Katabazi Mutuza, commended parents for their support in education. He encouraged them to actively engage their children in homestead activities and introduce short courses during the holiday period to keep them occupied and protected from harm.
Sr. Tuwombe Jane Musoke, the Headmistress of Our Lady of Good Counsel Nyakibale, highlighted the institution’s dedication to preparing students with love and integrity, in line with the vision of its founding Sisters. She urged parents to consider enrolling their children at the school for a holistic education experience that nurtures moral and academic excellence.
Parents Mugisha Rububa from Rwakirungura Buyanja and Diana Tumuhimbise from Kibirizi Buhunga lauded Our Lady of Good Counsel Nyakibale for fostering stability in children’s academic and personal lives. They praised the school’s efforts to ensure high-quality education, which consistently enables its students to secure placements at prestigious institutions like Immaculate Heart Girls’ School after completing primary education.
