Police in Kisoro District are investigating a case of aggravated robbery after two women were attacked and robbed at gunpoint by unknown assailants on the night of June 16, 2025.

The victims have been identified as Ndyowawe Ishamel, 20, the manager of KG Mini Petrol Station, and Birungi Sarah, 26, a businesswoman who owns a shop in Bihuru village, Gasinza parish, Nyakabande sub-county.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 9:00 PM when two masked men, one of them armed with a gun, first targeted Ishamel at the petrol station. The robbers demanded a bag containing the day’s sales and threatened to shoot her if she raised an alarm. Out of fear for her life, she complied.

The attackers then proceeded to a nearby shop owned by Birungi Sarah, located just 30 meters from the petrol station. They similarly ordered her to hand over all the money in her drawer, which she did.

After the robbery, the suspects fired two bullets in the air as they fled the scene to an unknown location. No injuries were reported.

The incident was promptly reported to the District Police Commander (DPC) by Mr. Kamaana Elisa, the petrol station proprietor. Police visited and documented the crime scene and recovered two cartridges. A sniffer dog was deployed, but the trail had already been compromised.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident and advised business owners, especially those operating late hours, to strengthen security measures, including employing guards and installing CCTV cameras.

Investigations are ongoing.
