The headteacher of Bwama primary school, Patience Tweheyo also says that learners always use canoe boats as the only means to get access to Education.
She also acknowledged that the school also lost a pupil identified as Ivan Muhwezi in Primary Four who drowned in the lake in February this year.
The Kabale District Education Officer, Moses Bwengye Tumwijukye condoled with family of the bereaved and the school at large. He prays that the deceased body gets retrieved so that it is accorded a decent burial.
However, while addressing students at the school today, Bwengye warned students to desist from acts of indiscipline and asked them to always put on life jackets whenever crossing the lake.
In a bid to improve the safety of learners crossing the lake to access Education, a team from Kyambogo University led by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya donated 100 life Jackets to Bwama primary school and Lake Bunyonyi Secondary School.
The University also donated 1000 Picfare Exercise books, 1000 Mathematical sets, 700 Pens, and 300 Pencils.
Prof Katunguka also revealed that the Kyambogo University Library is organizing a package of textbooks that will be delivered. He said that he is hopeful that the donation will lend a hand for children to access Education and improve the quality of Education at both schools.
