Police in Rubirizi District are investigating circumstances under which a police officer was attacked by a hippopotamus.

Marcial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson identified the victim as Expeditor Muuni attached to the Kazinga police post in Rubirizi District.

He said the incident happened in Queen Elizabeth National Park one and a half kilometers away from the Kazinga landing site trading center.

According to Eric Walemba, 53 years a police officer attached to Kazinga central police station who reported the case to police said that the incident happened on 06/08/2023.

It’s alleged that one Hamuza a game ranger in Queen Elizabeth National Park and Naziru attached to the fish protection unit at the Kazinga landing site asked for support from a joint operation.

He said that Walemba and Muuni booked out for duty to the road in the park and after walking for two kilometers on Rwenshama-Katunguru road a hippo attacked and injured Muuni.

Tumusiime said the victim was rushed to Rugazi Health Center IV and later was transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for further management.
