Police in Rubirizi District are investigating circumstances under which a S.4 student of St Michael Rugazi high school committed suicide.
Marcial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson identified the deceased as Moses Atukwatse18 years, a S.4 student at St Michael High School Rugazi, and a resident of Kambiringi cell, Ndangaro Parish, Rutoto sub-county Rubirizi District.
He said the incident happened on Wednesday 19th July 2023 at St. Micheal high school Rugazi in Nyakasharu ward, Rubirizi town council in Rubirizi District.
It’s alleged that the deceased was suspended from school about a week ago for escaping from school and was to bring a roll of barbed wire as a fine.
On Tuesday 18th July 2023 in the morning, he came to school without bringing a roll of barbed wire and the school administrators sent him back home to bring it.
However, during the night at around 2:30 am, he sneaked back to school and was sighted by one of the students climbing the wall of the school store and was reported to the school security officer and was arrested, kept at the school’s main gate sentry box.
According to James Rukaijakare 54 years, the head teacher of St. Micheal High School who reported the matter to police said that when he was removed from the sentry box and taken to one of the school rooms used as stores, locking him inside pending the intervention of the head teacher and police who were informed to pick up the suspect, at around 9:30 am.
Police went to pick him up and on opening the room they found the deceased hanging dead from the window bars.
The body was conveyed to Rugazi Health Center IV mortuary pending postmortem.
