Administrators at Rumbugu Primary School in Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District, have expressed concern over the lack of staff quarters, which has affected teachers’ ability to attend morning preparations and lessons on time.

During a celebration of the 2024 PLE results held at Rumbugu Church of Uganda on Monday, the school’s headteacher, Michael Mujibu, highlighted the urgent need for new staff housing. Mujibu revealed that the existing staff quarters, built in 1952, have been abandoned due to their deteriorated condition. He called on the government to construct new accommodations for the teaching staff, enabling them to participate in evening lessons without time constraints.

Speaking at the event, Rukungiri District Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama urged parents to prioritize their children’s education for a better future. He commended the school administration for fostering cooperation, which contributed to its success. Kyomukama also reassured attendees of the government’s commitment to fully supporting public schools.

Rukungiri District Principal Education Officer, Anxious Ganshanga, encouraged pupils to focus on their studies, seek mentors, and strive for excellence. He advised religious leaders and teachers to provide spiritual and academic mentorship. Additionally, he cautioned parents against keeping children at home for extended periods and emphasized the importance of parental cooperation with teachers to foster school development.

Ven. Andrew Kananura Kanyonyi and Ven. Edson Muheirwe of Kakinga and Kashenyi Archdeaconries, respectively, advised parents to engage their children in vocational and practical skills to prepare them for the future. They also encouraged students to uphold discipline by respecting teachers, parents, and elders, which would contribute to their academic success and overall prosperity.

Representing the school’s alumni, Mr. Davis Turyahariwe, a consultant with the Ministry of Agriculture, announced that the Rumbugu Primary School Old Boys’ (OBs) association under its Kampala Chapter is planning to mobilize funds to support students who pass in Division One. The initiative aims to sponsor these students from Senior One to Senior Four starting in 2026.

Founded by Rumbugu Church of Uganda in the 1950s, the school achieved commendable results in the 2024 PLE, with four students scoring Division One, 34 in Division Two, and one in Division Three. The four top-performing students were awarded scholastic materials, including mattresses, books, pens, and basins, in recognition of their achievement.

I thank stake holders for what they have been doing to boost performance in school. I call upon government and well wishers to continue supporting the school. May God reward everyone that has provided any support school abundantly.
