Rukungiri Municipality Legislator, Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, has called on individuals to return and support the schools where they studied, emphasizing the importance of contributing to the education and enlightenment of young Ugandans.

He made these remarks yesterday during a fundraising event at Kashozi Primary School, aimed at raising funds to construct additional buildings.

Rutahirwa noted that although most schools receive government aid, the government cannot provide all necessary resources. He, therefore, urged alumni to step in and support their former schools, ensuring that they remain strong.

Peter Atwebembire, the head teacher of the school, stated that the purpose of the fundraising event was to generate funds for the rehabilitation of classroom blocks, which are currently in poor condition and in need of renovation.

Deus Mugarura, the chairperson of the school management committee, highlighted several challenges faced by the school, including insufficient classrooms, inadequate latrines relative to the student enrollment, and a lack of accommodation for teachers—all of which impact the school’s performance.

During the fundraising event at Kashozi Primary School in the Eastern Division of Rukungiri Municipality, over 5 million UGX and 60 bags of cement were raised through both cash donations and pledges.

David Tumwesigye, the Eastern Division chairperson, stated that the Division is making efforts to enhance the development and performance of their schools by providing examination sets funded by the Division.

The fundraising mass was led by Rev. Fr. Zephrino Tumwejunise from St. Paul’s Seminary Nyakibale, who emphasized the need for parents, teachers, and school stakeholders to work together for the betterment of their schools. Fr. Tumwejunise also expressed his gratitude to the chief guest, Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, and other contributors who supported the fundraising efforts.
