Rukungiri District was named the best performer in the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) 2024, contributing over 307 million shillings, the highest amount among all districts in the Kabale Diocese.
The announcement was made during the climax mass held at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral BAAF Grounds, attended by a large gathering of Christians, politicians, and well-wishers.
This year’s BAAF campaign, spearheaded by the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, the Right Rev. Callist Rubaramira, aimed to raise 1.5 billion shillings for the construction of a commercial building in Kabale Town. Exceeding expectations, the campaign collected a record 1.9 billion shillings through collaborative efforts across the six districts of the Kigezi Sub-Region.
The event’s chief guest, Vice President Maj. Rtd. Jessica Alupo, was represented by Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance. Dr. Baryomunsi commended the diocese for its consistent efforts to promote development through initiatives like BAAF, which has become a hallmark of unity and progress in the region.
In his address, Bishop Rubaramira praised Christians for their dedication and commitment to supporting the diocese’s development projects. He highlighted BAAF’s transformative impact, which includes landmark achievements such as the renovation of Rushoroza Cathedral in 2014, the establishment of Centenary Bank branches in Kisoro, Kabale, and Rukungiri, the launch of Radio Maria Uganda Kabale, and the opening of St. Ignatius University Kabale in 2023.
The Chairperson of the BAAF Central Organizing Committee, Alex Baguma, emphasized that BAAF is more than a fundraising event—it’s a movement to transform lives and promote sustainable development. “The BAAF is not just about collecting money. It’s about making a tangible difference in the lives of Christians and fostering growth in our communities,” he remarked.
Rukungiri District emerged as the star performer, with its organizing committee, led by Mr. Maanige Wenceslas, receiving a trophy in recognition of their exceptional effort.
In his closing remarks, Bishop Rubaramira expressed gratitude to all contributors and announced plans for BAAF 2025. He revealed that next year’s campaign will focus on parish-level projects, enabling local communities to address their unique development needs. “The diocese-wide campaign will resume in 2026, but 2025 will allow parishes to prioritize their specific goals,” he said.
The success of BAAF 2024 underscores the unity and dedication of Christians in the Kabale Diocese, proving that collective effort can achieve remarkable results.
