Police in Kabale District are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a man on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Alfred Turyatunga, an adult male and resident of Karuma Village in Kyanamira Sub-county.
According to police, the incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at 09:30 pm. at Kabaraga Village along the Kabale–Mbarara Road.
It is alleged that Turyatunga became involved in a scuffle with other individuals over a tricycle that had been parked by the roadside and loaded with iron sheets, which they suspected to have been stolen.
During the confrontation, Turyatunga reportedly fell into the path of an oncoming vehicle traveling from the Mbarara direction. He was knocked instantly and died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop, and those involved in the scuffle, including the rider of the tricycle, fled the scene. Police officers visited and processed the scene, documenting evidence before transferring the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The tricycle has since been impounded and is being held at Kabale Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, noting that inquiries are ongoing to identify the vehicle involved and establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
