The Rukungiri resident district commissioner Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo has advised locals and parents of Kyabureere primary school in Rukungiri district to be patient with the district and take their children back to school as the district plans to rehabilitate the dilapidated structures at the school that were the cause of a protest

Parents and local leaders of Kyabureere parish, Bugangari Sub County in Rukungiri district on 5th February 2023 demonstrated and closed Kyabureere primary school over dilapidated infrastructure.

Nsubuga says the district education department has already put Kyabureere primary school under a 2023 transitional development grant and requested 271 million from the ministry of finance to construct a four-classroom block at Kyabureere primary school.

He further says that this grant will only be possible if supervisors from the ministry of education and sports and finance find learners at school because they only help schools with learners hence urging parents to be patient and take back their children to the  school as they wait for the district to work on their infrastructure in a short time.

Rukungiri district in 2022 constructed classroom blocks at Katungu and Kasheshe primary schools under the transitional development grant and will embark on Kyabureere primary school this year.

Kyabureere primary school started as a catholic school in 1995 and became a government aided school in 2009.
