Father Posiano Kwitonda, the Assistant Priest of Rutooma Catholic Parish and overseer of schools, emphasized the importance of valuing the meaningful impact of one’s work rather than focusing solely on material wealth. He conveyed this message during the handover ceremony from retired head teacher Karugaba Atanansius to Asiimwe Molly at Kakamba Primary School in Kyaruyenje Parish, Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri District on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024.
Father Kwitonda delivered his message on St. Joseph’s Day, a day traditionally dedicated to workers, which coincided with the national Labor Day celebrations. He praised Karugaba Atanansius for his exemplary retirement and stressed the significance of dedicating oneself to producing tangible results for future recognition and fulfillment, rather than pursuing wealth alone.
Mr. Muzoora Bruce, the Rukungiri District Inspector of Schools responsible for Buhunga Sub County, addressed the staffing challenges faced by schools, urging understanding from school authorities due to teacher shortages resulting from early retirements and illnesses.
Ms. Kyoshabire Florence, Chairperson of the School Management Committee, and Twinomugisha Posiano, Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association, expressed gratitude for the transformation of the school under Karugaba Atanansius’s leadership since 2014. They announced plans to honor both the outgoing head teacher and outstanding students at the start of the next term.
In his remarks, retired head teacher Karugaba Atanansius credited the school’s academic success to the cooperation of parents and appealed to district authorities to deploy more teachers, highlighting the insufficiency of the current seven teachers compared to the student enrollment.
Incoming head teacher Asiimwe Molly acknowledged the conducive environment for academic excellence and thanked parents for their warm welcome. She denounced recent protests against teacher deployments and pledged to work collaboratively with the community to maintain high standards of achievement.
