Councilors of Rukungiri Municipality have launched a sensitization campaign to address issues of delayed school reporting and absenteeism among students.

Councilors Fred Mucunguzi (Eastern Division District Councilor), Behimbisa Topher Science (Northern A Ward, Western Division Councilor), and Anthony Mbabazi (Kinyasano Ward, Western Division Councilor) are advocating for timely school attendance and discouraging students from hiding in bushes during school hours.

Fred Mucunguzi emphasized the need to monitor the first week of the school term to assess student turnout. He highlighted existing gaps and called for strict measures to prevent delayed reporting and the smuggling of prohibited items into schools.

Topher Behimbisa Science expressed concern over students loitering on roads during school hours and the absenteeism of teachers, which negatively affects students’ concentration and academic performance.

Anthony Mbabazi attributed these educational challenges to the lack of regular meetings that foster collaboration between parents, teachers, and school management committees, ultimately hindering the delivery of quality education.

Scorah Musimenta, a parent, pointed out that some disadvantaged families struggle to provide school requirements on time, contributing to delays in students reporting back.

Alfred Katabazi Mutuuza, the Principal Education Officer of Rukungiri Municipal Council, blamed the situation on negligent teachers and parents who fail to make adequate preparations for the new school term.
