Police in Rubirizi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suicide of a 23-year-old woman for unknown reasons.

The incident occurred on February 1, 2025, at around midnight at Rugazi Health Centre IV in Rubirizi District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Faridah Namudu, a 23-year-old Mugwere by tribe, a peasant, and a resident of Kyambura C Village, Kyambura Parish, Kichamba Sub-county in Rubirizi District.

It is alleged that Namudu had worked abroad for four years, regularly sending money to her relative, Sadadi, a resident of the same area. Sadadi reportedly assured her that he had purchased land and started a business on her behalf.

However, upon returning home, Namudu was devastated to find that none of the promised investments existed. Overcome with frustration and despair, she allegedly took poison in an apparent suicide attempt.

After ingesting the poison, she walked towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, where a boda boda rider found her in critical condition. He transported her to a nearby clinic, from where she was later referred to Rugazi Health Centre IV, where she succumbed to the poisoning.
