Police in Rubirizi District have arrested a 29-year-old man on allegations of defiling a four-year-old child.
The incident happened on January 31, 2025, at around 7:00 PM in Busingo village, Mushumba parish, Ryeru sub-county, Rubirizi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Bright Benjamin, 29, a peasant and resident of Busingo village, Mushumba parish, Ryeru sub-county, Rubirizi District.
Tumusiime further said the victim is a four-year-old child in baby class at Mushumba Primary School in Rubirizi District.
It is alleged that on January 31, 2025, Juliet Kinkuhaire, 50, who reported the case to police, sent the victim and her brother, Musinguzi Ashrafu, to their grandmother’s place to inquire whether she had matooke for sale.
However, on their way back home, they met the suspect, who pulled the victim into a nearby garden, removed her underwear, and forcefully performed a sexual act on her.
The victim cried for help, and Ms. Mugume appeared and found the suspect in the act. He immediately ran away.
The matter was reported to the area village chairman, who advised her to report to the police for prompt technical assistance.
