Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality Mayor, Richard Byaruhanga, has cautioned the public against the misuse of social media to spread misinformation.

Byaruhanga emphasized that some individuals with personal interests use social media to mislead the public, which in turn hampers service delivery, as the government does not act on baseless information.

He made these remarks on Saturday during a meeting organized by Bushenyi Central Market leaders to seek clarification on the market’s construction.

Byaruhanga reassured market vendors that the municipal council had approved the construction of Bushenyi Central Market and that no one would reallocate it. This statement contradicts that of the Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, who had earlier stated that the African Development Bank had suspended the funds allocated for the market’s construction.

Jafari Basajjabalaba, the LC V Chairman of Bushenyi District, urged people not to mix politics with development, noting that many projects have stalled due to political interference.

Nathan Byaruhanga Kabogoza, the chairman of Bushenyi Central Market, stated that the meeting was intended to find solutions to improve the hygienic conditions in which vendors operate.

However, the meeting ended prematurely after the municipal leadership refused to entertain questions from the public, citing other engagements.
