The territorial police in Kanungu District have launched an investigation into a violent domestic incident that left a couple hospitalized. The victims include Tugume Frank, a 39-year-old carpenter residing in Kazuru Cell, Bushura Parish, Kirima Sub-County, who is in critical condition.

According to preliminary reports, the violent episode unfolded late on the night of November 17, 2024, at around 11:00 p.m. Tugume returned home intoxicated, and while he slept, his wife, Nisiima Joventah, allegedly attacked him. She reportedly poured hot water on him before cutting him multiple times with a panga.

Their children were awakened by Tugume’s cries for help and managed to intervene, saving their father. Shortly after the attack, Joventah allegedly ingested a suspected herbicide, believed to be Ambush, in an apparent attempt to poison herself.

Relatives of Tugume, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and took both victims to Katate Health Center. Due to the severity of Tugume’s injuries, he was later transferred to Mbarara Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The police were notified by Niwagaba Josephat, and a crime scene team promptly visited the residence to collect evidence. Recovered items included a plastic bottle containing a white substance suspected to be poison, a panga, and a blood-stained flask. The investigation, led by ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, is ongoing as authorities seek to understand the full circumstances of this case.
