The territorial police in Kanungu District have arrested Twinomuhwezi Phillip on allegations of stealing coffee beans. The incident, reported by Asiimwe Onesmus, a resident of Ntabagwe Cell, Kihembe Parish, Kanyantorogo Sub-county, is said to have occurred during the night of November 18, 2024.
According to police reports, unknown individuals allegedly entered Asiimwe’s coffee garden and stole the beans. Asiimwe subsequently reported the incident to Kanungu Police Station, requesting assistance, including the use of a police sniffer dog to track down the suspect.
Upon arrival at the crime scene, which had been preserved for investigation, the sniffer dog named Prince was introduced to the area. The dog quickly picked up a scent and tracked it for approximately 300 meters, leading the police to the house of Twinomuhwezi Phillip. Inside, officers observed coffee beans matching the stolen batch. Further inquiries revealed that the suspect had sold the beans to an individual known as Promise from the same village.
The police arrested Twinomuhwezi Phillip, who is now detained at the Kanungu Central Police Station. Recovered coffee beans have been secured as exhibits. ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are ongoing.
