The territorial police in Rukungiri are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder of Katsigazi Erias, a 48-year-old shopkeeper and resident of Omukacundezi village, Kisizi parish, Nyarushanje sub-county, Rukungiri district.
It is reported that on February 1, 2025, Katsigazi Erias was at his shop, which also served as his home. At around 9:30 PM, he had supper with his family before closing the shop, and they all went inside the house to sleep. At approximately 11:00 PM, his wife, Tumuhereze Pamela, began calling for help. Their child, Tukesiga Recub, responded and found his mother lying face down near the inner doorway, with her hands loosely tied behind her back with a rope and her face covered with a cloth known as “ekitengye.”
Upon seeing him, she urged him to check on his father. Tukesiga found his father in the bedroom, lying in a pool of blood. He immediately called neighbors for assistance, including Nuwagaba Adella, alias Nalongo, who helped untie his mother.
However, a thorough examination of the crime scene revealed no signs of forced entry or break-in, raising suspicions about the actual events of the night. The wife’s account that four individuals attacked them inside the house was met with skepticism.
The police at Rubabo Police Station were notified, and officers examined and documented the crime scene. The body of the deceased was transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the deceased’s wife was arrested to assist with the ongoing investigations.
Inquiries into the case are ongoing, according to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson.
