The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has urged parents to closely monitor their children’s use of technology to prevent distractions from real-life responsibilities and potential negative effects on their future.

Speaking during a confirmation service at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Rugarama, in the northern division of Kabale Municipality, where 72 Christians were confirmed into the Anglican faith, Bishop Akanjuna emphasized the need for responsible technology use. He highlighted the risks children face when using technology without proper guidance, warning that unrestricted access can expose them to cyberbullying and harmful content.

The bishop noted that many parents hand over their phones to children without supervising the websites they visit, leaving them vulnerable to negative influences. He stressed that while technology is an inevitable part of modern life, parents must take an active role in guiding their children to use it responsibly. He cautioned that unregulated technology use can lead to distractions, reduced attention spans, and exposure to harmful material, which can ultimately affect their well-being and future.

Bishop Akanjuna urged parents to ensure that technology is utilized in a manner that fosters peace, prosperity, and positive values rather than contributing to harm and moral decay.

In his sermon, the bishop also encouraged Christians to avoid indulging in bodily desires and worldly pleasures, instead focusing on living a life that is pleasing to God. He emphasized the importance of trusting in the Lord and adhering to a life of faith and obedience to God’s will.

Bishop Akanjuna reminded Christians that they are called to live a life distinct from worldly influences. He urged them to resist temptations and instead strive to engage in actions that honor and glorify the Lord.
