Police in Rukiga District are investigating circumstances surrounding the suspected murder of a 43-year-old woman whose body was found hanging in her house in Rwamucucu Sub-County.

The deceased has been identified as Oliver Mbabazi, a housewife and resident of Rwongora Cell, Kitojo Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-County, Rukiga District.

According to police reports, on 6th December 2025 at around 2:00 PM, the deceased was last seen alive at her home with her two-month-old baby. However, on 7th December 2025 at about 7:00 PM, her body was discovered hanging in the house using a piece of cloth locally known as a lesu.

Police say that critical examination of the body revealed a deep flesh wound around the neck, raising strong suspicion that the victim may have been murdered and later staged to look like suicide.

The crime scene was visited, processed, and documented, and statements were recorded from relevant witnesses. A police sniffer dog was deployed and led to the arrest of one suspect, who is currently detained pending thorough interrogation by investigators.

Police also recovered a knife with suspected bloodstains outside the compound. The body has been taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
