Local leaders and stakeholders in Nyeibingo Parish, Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, are calling for stricter adherence to traffic rules along the newly rehabilitated Nyeibingo road.

This road, which was recently upgraded by Kebisoni Sub County, runs from Garubunda Parish through notable landmarks such as the Late Festo Nabigwamu’s premises, Kebisoni Seed Secondary School, Nyeibingo Church of Uganda, and Ahamuhambo trading center, eventually connecting with Buhunga Sub County.

Mzee Patrick Rubagasira, Chairperson of Katenga Cell (LC1), expressed gratitude to the government for the road’s rehabilitation. However, he highlighted concerns over the lack of murram, proper drainage channels, and road signs. He urged motorists to drive responsibly, especially near school zones, to protect students’ lives.

Alex Byamukama Posiano Kasibya, a truck driver and resident of Katenga Cell, also praised the rehabilitation efforts but condemned illegal sand mining along the road. He emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining drainage channels to ensure the road’s longevity.

Daniel Tuhumuze, the Parish Chief of Nyeibingo, reminded the public that demolishing the road is a punishable offense, with fines up to 500,000 UGX or imprisonment.

Frank Mabwa, Parish Councilor and Vice Chairperson of Kebisoni Sub County (LC3), encouraged nearby communities to contribute through communal work to protect the road from future degradation, emphasizing the hardships faced during its rehabilitation.

This appeal from local leaders highlights the community’s commitment to preserving the newly improved infrastructure for safe and effective use.
