Hon. Minister Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County and Security Minister, has called for a mindset shift to transform domestic homestead projects into commercially viable enterprises.
This message was delivered on his behalf by Mr. Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Chief Guest, during a thanksgiving ceremony held on Saturday, 14th December 2024, at Rwakitura Leisure Gardens, Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri District. The event, organized by Mr. Wednesday Twinomujuni, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyakishenyi Sub County, commemorated his survival of a deadly accident, his daughter’s graduation, and his stable family. It also aimed to mobilize funds for the purchase of a community ambulance.
Kyomukama highlighted traditional homestead projects such as banana, coffee, beans, maize, poultry, and dairy farming, urging families to expand these into commercial ventures to boost livelihoods.
Rev. Canon Beingana Erick Mugyenzi, the Diocesan Secretary for North Kigezi, in his sermon, challenged Christians to prioritize pleasing God, the ultimate provider and defender. He warned against placing trust in material wealth, which can be lost if not centered on Godly values.
Mr. Alex Bob Rugonde, the Rubabo County Parliamentary Candidate and Godfather of the baptized child, emphasized the importance of community collaboration and generosity, particularly in the health sector, to complement government efforts in providing reliable services.
Mr. Wednesday Twinomujuni, the organizer of the thanksgiving, shared his motivation for purchasing a community ambulance. He recounted the challenges he faced due to the lack of emergency transport following a deadly accident on 11th April 2020, which inspired him to address this critical gap.
The event raised over 14 million Ugandan shillings, part of the 80 million shillings required for the ambulance project.
