Police at Mbarara Central Police Station is holding Sayuni Yosam 36 a resident of Alliance cell Kakoba ward Mbarara City South division on charges of electronic fraud, impersonation, obtaining money by false presence and obtaining registration by false pretense
The suspect has been using different telephone numbers registered in other people’s names to target businessmen and women in hardware and service provision in the pretext of awarding them contracts with the Catholic Church in Nyamitanga
According to Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region Police spokesman, the suspect while impersonating staff of the Church with the help of others still at large defrauded members of the public in the areas of Rwizi Region and Kigezi of money whose amounts are yet to be established
The suspect was reportedly nabbed with telephone Lines used in the crime
Kassasira says all sim cards were recovered and exhibited to help in investigations but his counterparts are still at large,
He called for vigilance from the public and asked all those affected by the fraudster to report to CPS Mbarara
Kasasira urged members of the public to desist from sharing their personal details with strangers to avoid becoming targets or implicated in crime.
