Police in Kisoro District are investigating a shocking incident in which a 52-year-old man was allegedly beaten and cut to death by his wife and son over a land dispute.
The deceased, identified as Francis Hitimana, a resident of Rukoro Village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub County, was reportedly attacked on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the deceased was assaulted by his wife Margret Nyirabizagwira and son Moses Ndayisenga, after he sold a piece of family land three days earlier — a decision the family had reportedly opposed.
“It is alleged that the wife, son, and two daughters beat him up and cut him on the head, leading to his instant death. They accused him of selling land without their consent,” Maate stated.
After killing him, the suspects allegedly attempted to conceal the incident by moving the body from the house to the nearby road before returning it to the sitting room, where they placed it on a mat.
A concerned neighbor who noticed bloodstains around the home alerted the area chairperson Richard Kaburabuza, who reported the matter to Kanaba Police Station.
Police later visited the scene, documented evidence, and transported the body to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for postmortem. The suspected murder weapons — including a panga, hoe, and axe — were recovered and exhibited.
Maate confirmed that the two suspects are in custody as investigations continue.
