Bushenyi District is facing the possibility of losing over Shs90 billion allocated for workers after disagreements among district leaders delayed the recruitment process.
The disagreement arose on Thursday between council chairpersons and the district speaker, Douglas Mucunguzi, over the order paper that was intended to include additional names to the District Service Commission committee.
The conflict followed delays by district officials to implement directives issued by the Ministry of Local Government within the required timeframe. At the time, the District Executive Committee (DEC), led by Jaffari Bashajabalaba, had proposed the appointment of new committee members, including RDC Martin Mugabe and Julius Turinawe.
However, Speaker Douglas Mucunguzi ruled that the district council had failed to follow the proper procedures and therefore could not proceed with the matter because the time allowed to reach consensus had already elapsed.
As a result, councilor Nganwa Borora of Bitooma Sub-county resolved through their requisitions and resolutions to hire an external District Service Commission to conduct the recruitment exercise and prevent the district from losing the Shs90 billion meant for district workers.
Speaking during the council meeting, Denis Kanyankore of Ruhumuro Sub-county said that hiring an external District Service Commission would help residents of Bushenyi District access services more effectively through timely recruitment of workers.
The Chief Administrative Officer, Phionah Sanyu, commended the councilors for the idea, saying the move was timely and would help improve service delivery to the people.
