Police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 16-year-old boy who was allegedly stabbed to death at Omukashansha Trading Centre in Kambuga Sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as Darius Tukamushaba, a resident of Kakoni Cell, Nyarugunda Parish in Kambuga Sub-county.
According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incident happened on the night of May 7, 2026, at around 11:30pm.
Maate said it is alleged that the suspect, only identified as Mugisha, was drinking alcohol with friends at a bar owned by a one Kasingire when the deceased arrived and called him outside.
“It is alleged that while the suspect was in the bar drinking with friends, the deceased came and called him outside. Another man identified as Tayebwa Yeremia followed them to see what was happening,” Maate said.
He added that shortly after moving outside, Mugisha allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Darius in the stomach before fleeing from the scene.
“The eyewitness ran back to the bar and informed his colleague, Niwasiima Pakarasio, about what had happened. They later informed the area chairperson, who alerted relatives of the deceased,” Maate explained.
The victim was rushed to Kambuga Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police visited and documented the scene of crime, recorded statements from relevant witnesses, and conducted a postmortem examination at Kambuga Hospital.
Maate said efforts to arrest the suspect are ongoing and appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest.
“Inquiries into the matter are ongoing to establish the motive behind the murder,” he said.
