The Kanungu Town Council has approved a budget of UGX 295.6 million for the 2026/2027 financial year, with workers and technical services taking the largest share of the allocation.

The budget was approved during a council meeting held today, 8th May 2026, at the Town Council Hall in Kanungu Town Council. The meeting was presided over by the Town Council Speaker, Diana Bitamba, and attended by Town Clerk Moses Ndyahikayo, Mayor Godfrey Karabenda, councilors, and other stakeholders.

According to the approved estimates, the workers and technical services department received the biggest allocation of UGX 115.5 million, representing 39 percent of the total budget. The administration department followed with UGX 68.6 million, equivalent to 23 percent.

Other allocations included UGX 17.7 million for the finance department, UGX 36.5 million for health and environment, UGX 11.1 million for internal audit, and UGX 20.1 million for urban councils.

The production and marketing department was allocated UGX 4.6 million, while gender and community development received UGX 5.4 million. Planning was allocated UGX 3.1 million, education services UGX 3 million, and natural resources UGX 900,000.

Speaking during the meeting, Mayor Godfrey Karabenda called for unity among councilors, especially those who were re-elected, and welcomed the newly elected members to work together for the development of the town council.

He also emphasized the need to sensitize community members before implementing government projects in order to avoid resistance and misinformation among residents.
