The Government has proposed a significant salary enhancement for Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), Deputy RDCs, and Assistant RDCs as part of efforts to improve their welfare and strengthen service delivery.
According to the proposal, RDCs are expected to see their monthly salary increase from UGX 2,293,200 to UGX 9 million, while Deputy RDCs will earn UGX 5 million, up from UGX 1,282,369. Assistant RDCs are also set for an increment from UGX 877,216 to UGX 2,695,000.
The proposal was presented by Alex Byarugaba, Chairperson of the Presidential Affairs Committee, while presenting the report on the 2026/2027 Ministerial Policy Statement for the Office of the Presidency.
He noted that Uganda currently has 146 RDCs, 170 Deputy RDCs, and 432 Assistant RDCs, whose salaries have remained unchanged for about 20 years.
